Chilli Fish is a delicious and spicy dish that is a popular Asian dish. Here is the simple and delicious recipe:
Ingredients:
For the fish:
– 500 grams (1 pound) boneless fish fillets (e.g., tilapia, cod or snapper)
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup cornstarch
– 1 teaspoon paprika
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon pepper
– 1 egg
– 1/2 cup cold water
– Oil for frying
For the sauce:
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
– 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
– 1 red bell pepper, chopped
– 1 green bell pepper, chopped
– 3-4 garlic cloves, chopped
– 1 inch ginger, chopped
– 2-3 green chilies, chopped (adjust to taste)
– 3 tablespoons soy sauce
– 2 teaspoons rice vinegar or white vinegar
– 2 teaspoons tomato ketchup
– 1 tablespoon chili sauce (adjust to taste)
– 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
– 1/2 cup water or chicken broth
– 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (to thicken)
– Salt to taste
– 2 tablespoons chopped green onion for garnish
Instructions:
1. Prepare the fish :-
– Cut the fish fillets into small pieces.
– Combine the flour, cornstarch, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
– In another bowl, beat the eggs and add cold water.
– Dip each piece of fish into the egg mixture, then coat it with the flour mixture.
– Heat the oil in a pan or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the coated fish pieces until golden brown and crispy. Remove and pat dry on paper towels.
2.Prepare the Sauce :-
– Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium heat.
– Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
– Add chopped garlic, ginger and green chilies. Saute for another minute until fragrant.
– Add chopped red and green bell peppers and cook for a few minutes until they begin to soften.
– Add soy sauce, vinegar, tomato ketchup, chili sauce and sugar. Mix well.
– Add water or chicken broth and cook the mixture over low heat.
– Add the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens a bit.
– Adjust seasonings by adding salt if needed.
3.Mix :-
– Add the fried fish pieces to the sauce and mix gently to coat them evenly in the sauce.
– Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until everything is heated through.
4. Garnish and serve :-
– Garnish with chopped spring onions.
– Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
